Investment Criteria

Proof of Concept

While we'll consider Seed Round funding when we know the founders well, we want to see some proof of concept in our investments.  We don't expect a full-blown business, but we know proof of concept when we see it.

Revenue, Customer Base, Business Pipeline

Again, unless we know you well, we want to see some existing revenue streams and some devoted customers.  We want to see some raving net promoters, even if they don't do a lot of business with you, as they are putting their reputations on the line to support your business.  Finally, we want to see a pipeline of business development opportunities, with weighted probability scores.  We'll hold you to that pipeline and provide milestone investments accordingly.

Management Team

Any investor invests in people and we are no different.  As table stakes, we demand honesty in those people, as we do not want to be involved with anyone we cannot trust.  We look for discipline and focus, the most important aspects of entrepreneurs.  We very much like to see a seasoned executive team with a history of successful exits, but we also welcome the chance to back young people with no track record but a lot of hunger, as they recall our own memories of ourselves in the same days.  Regardless of age or experience, we look for skin in the game and a coherent exit strategy.

Scalability

We like business of all sizes, from potential revenues of 7 figures to 10 figures, and we have experience with that full gamut.  Regardless of size, we look for scalability.  We want to see business models that leverage fixed costs and capital investments to drive profitability and cash flow over time.

Common Good, Dignity, Solidarity, Subsidiarity

We invest in businesses that meet the requirements of Catholic Social Teaching.  We only invest in business that advance the common good, meaning that those business contribute to human flourishing.  We require that any business in which we invest treats all people with the dignity of having been created in God's image and engage in work as an act of co-creation with Him.  We insist on subsidiarity, in terms of the empowerment of employees and teams to lead and shape their own destinies.  And, we insist on solidarity with customers, employees, and vendors.

This investment criterion rests on the premise that we do well by doing good.

Scott founded his first business, Fortessa Tableware Solutions, while in college in 1993, which he led from a garage start-up to global leadership within its industry and an approximate $100mm enterprise value. In 2022 Scott merged that business with Zwiesel Kristallglas of Germany to create a group with more than $200mm in revenue and 1000 employees.

Following a successful merger, he set his sights on new opportunities to pursue his mission. Scott is a skilled strategic thinker with a particular talent for analysis and marketing innovation. Scott demonstrates excellent communication skills and is an accomplished public speaker and writer. These talents give him an ability to identify, articulate, and lead the implementation of strategic plans.
